How much longer will the Zeeland Bridge last?

60 years of weather, wind, and an extremely corrosive climate have had an impact on materials such as concrete and steel, with which the Zeeland Bridge was built. The province of Zeeland wants to preserve the bridge, which is currently a monument, for as long as possible and relies on the expertise and experience of Bjond.

Together with Boosten Concrete Technology Consultancy, Bjond is investigating the condition of the 60-year-old foundations of the Zeeland Bridge. For this, advanced non-destructive techniques are used, such as Radar, Ferroscan, and electrochemical (half-cell) measurements. This allows one to 'look' inside the concrete and determine how the reinforcing steel inside is 'feeling.' It is determined whether corrosion of the reinforcement can be expected without it being visible from the outside. Combined with their expertise, Bjond advises the province of Zeeland on the necessary maintenance and monitoring of these essential parts of this beautiful structure.
